Police Blotter: Traffic Stops Lead To Multiple Drug Arrests

The following information was obtained from the Cranford Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

 

Aug. 9

  • At 3:12 p.m., Patrolman Matthew Nazzaro stopped a 2000 Nissan for a motor vehicle violation in the area of Centennial Avenue and Hayes Street. As a result of the investigation, the passenger, Alan Lopez-Baylon, 27, of Linden, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lopez-Baylon was issued a motor vehicle summons for failure to wear a seatbelt. In addition, Lopez-Baylon had outstanding traffic warrants out of East Brunswick and Englishtown. He was released to the Englishtown Police Department and given a Cranford Municipal Court date of Aug. 22.

  • At 10:05 p.m., Officer Thomas Stiansen stopped a 2003 Ford on Centennial Avenue at Hayes Street for multiple motor vehicle violations. As a result of the investigation, the driver, David Chaverri, 24, of Yardville was arrested and charged with possession of prescription medications without a prescription.  Chaverri was also issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to exhibit a driver’s license, failure to wear seatbelt and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. Chaverri was released with a Cranford Municipal Court date of Aug. 22.

Aug. 16

  • At 2:56 p.m., Patrolman Spencer Durkin stopped a 2001 Ford on North Avenue at Carpenter Place for multiple motor vehicle violations. During the investigation the driver, Devin Froelich, 19, of Clark, was arrested and charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia and was issued motor vehicle summonses for having a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, maintenance of lamps and failure to wear seatbelt. In addition, Froelich had an outstanding no bail criminal warrant out of Essex County. Froelich was given a Union County Superior Court date of Aug. 22 and was released to the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.
  • At 10:53 a.m., Patrolman William Pietrucha stopped a 1996 Honda in the area of North and Elizabeth avenues for several motor vehicle violations. Following an investigation, the passenger Antonio Hernandez, 26, of Newark, was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hernandez was also issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to wear a seatbelt and failure to have child safely secured. The driver, Bryan Gallego, was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving with a suspended license, uninsured vehicle, failure to have child safely secured and maintenance of lamps. Hernandez was given a Cranford Municipal Court date of Aug. 22.
  • At 4:30 p.m., Patrolman Spencer Durkin stopped a 2006 Ford on Centennial Avenue at Myrtle Street for a motor vehicle violation. As a result of the investigation, the passenger, Richard Matthews, 46, of Bayville, was arrested on an outstanding criminal warrant out of Wall Township and a no bail criminal warrant out of Ocean County Sheriff’s Department. The driver, Steven Gwinnett, was issued a motor vehicle summons for driving with a suspended license.  Matthews was released to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.
