Police: Juveniles Allegedly Caught Off-Road With Drugs, Alcohol; Man Gives Cop Bad Name

Police charged four Cranford juveniles last week for possession of marijuana and alcohol after an officer found them emerging from an off-road area near the center of town. For unknown reasons, a Linden man allegedly gave a Cranford officer a made-up name. Details:

Thursday, May 13:
Officer Spencer Durkin stopped a vehicle on Raritan Road and Moen Avenue at 11:50 p.m. for driving with all windows tinted. Through further investigation, Durkin arrested a 27-year-old man from Union for possession of CDS marijuana and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. Scott was also issued a motor vehicle summonses for improper glass and failure to exhibit documents.

Friday, May 14:
Officer Derek Farbanec stopped a vehicle on North and Centennial avenues at 11:32 p.m. after he observed it enter the roadway from an area that had been a victim of criminal mischief in the past. Through further investigation, four occupants of the vehicle, all Cranford juveniles, were arrested for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. All juveniles were released to their parent or guardian.

Saturday, May 15:
Durkin stopped a vehicle at 2:05 a.m. for traveling at a high rate of speed on Myrtle Street. Through further investigation, the 20-year-old driver from Linden was charged with possession of paraphernalia and hindering his own apprehension by giving the officer a false name.
