Police Make Arrests After Drivers Fail to Yield to Pedestrians, Red Lights

Police activity from October 13-19.

Cranford Police made three arrests last week. Two were during a pedestrian crosswalk safety detail. The other occurred after a suspect drove through a red light. Details:

Thursday, October 15:
Ptl. Patrick Fay, along with officers Spencer Durkin, Sgt. Frank Williams and Sean Holcomb, conducted a pedestrian crosswalk safety detail at the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Doering Way at 9:47 a.m. A vehicle driven by a 50-year-old Union man failed to yield as Durkin was crossing in the intersection.

Through further investigation the suspect was found to be in possession of cocaine and paraphernalia. He also had outstanding warrants out of Union and East Orange. The suspect was issued summonses for a suspended drivers license, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to yield to a pedestrian, careless driving and CDS in a motor vehicle.

A 38-year-old female passenger, who also had warrants from East Orange and Newark, was charged with possession of cocaine paraphernalia.

Saturday, October 17:
Officer Thomas Stiansen stopped a vehicle on Raritan Road for going through a red light at 1:57 a.m. Through further investigation, the 48-year-old driver from Union was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with failure to observe a signal, failure to inspect his vehicle, and refusal to submit breath samples. He was charged and released.
