Police: No-Show Hardwood Floor Contractor Charged with Theft

Cranford Police have nabbed a man they say took $4,000 from a Van Buren Ave. resident to install hardwood floors back in July, and then never showed up. 

Edesio DeOliveira, 43 of Long Branch was arrested on Thursday while spotted in a van on Raritan Road, near Walnut Avenue. According to the police investigation, DeOliveira said he represented a firm known as "Eddie’s Hardwood Floors." 

He was charged by Det. Spencer Durkin with theft by deception and faces four outstanding arrest warrants from other jurisdictions, according to police.

He was processed and released on bail. He is scheduled for a court appearance on Feb. 2 in Superior Court.
