Reports of 'Shots Fired' Turned Out To Be Fireworks, Police Said

Teens playing with illegal fireworks are to blame for the loud noises that some residents thought were gunshots.

The sound that many residents near High Street thought were gunshots on Nov. 27 turned out to be nothing more than a group of kids playing with fireworks, Union County Police confirmed today.

Late Sunday morning, Cranford Police received calls from residents in the area of High Street who reported hearing as many as six gunshots coming from a wooded area.

Local and county police responded to the location where they set up a perimeter around the area and began combing the neighborhood for suspects, bullet casings or any other evidence of gunshots.
