Robert F. Hand Memorial Scholarship Presented to CHS Senior

Ryan McSharry hopes to pursue a career in Homeland Security.

The Cranford PBA presented a Cranford High School senior with the Robert F. Hand Memorial Scholarship on June 5.

As an active member of the Cranford Police Explorer Program, Ryan McSharry was the recipient of the scholarship.

McSharry will be attending Montclair State University in the fall to study International Justice in hopes of one day working in Homeland Security.

Cranford PBA President Steven D’Ambola and Hand’s daughter Peggy Cleveland presented McSharry with the honor at the high school’s award ceremony.

“Ryan has proven to be deserving of this scholarship and the Cranford PBA is proud to pay our respects to fallen Officer Hand with this annual award,” D’Ambola said.  “We hope to help future leaders like Ryan achieve their goals.”

The scholarship has been set up in memory of Patrolman Hand who was killed on February 11, 1975 during a high-speed car chase trying to protect the residents of Cranford.
