Springfield Ave. Partially Closed Following Accident

One person was reportedly injured in a minor accident that shut the roadway for about a half hour on Tuesday night.

On Tuesday night, a section of Springfield Avenue from Hampton Road to West End Place was closed briefly by police after an accident that reportedly injured one person. A Mercury SUV with extensive front-end damage was hauled away from the scene on a flatbed truck, while police supervised the spreading of sand over the roadway.

Police would not comment on the nature of the accident.

Unconfirmed reports of an accident near Springfield Avenue and North Union Avenue appeared around 7:30p.m. The accident, which was actually several blocks up Springfield Avenue was cleared by 8p.m.

A woman sitting in the driver side of a black SUV with rear-end damage said the driver of the Mercury complained of a knee injury and was taken away in an ambulance. She declined to give her name.
