County Lowers Lakes, Closes Facilities As Sandy Approaches

Superior Court and a number of county park services have been closed.

 

The following information has been provided by the County of Union, regarding measures that have been taken to prepare for Hurricane Sandy.

County Lakes Lowered: In anticipation of Hurricane Sandy, Union County has lowered the level of several lakes within its parks system. The following lakes have been lowered: Nomahegan Lake in Cranford; Clark Reservoir in Clark; Bloodgoods Pond in Clark; Jackson Pond in Clark and Milton Lake in Rahway. These measures have been taken in order to minimize flooding as the lakes fill up during the hurricane.

Superior Court: Union County Superior Court and Vicinage will be closed Monday.

Union County Parks System: The Warinanco Skating Center will remain closed Monday for the duration of the storm.

Trailside Nature & Science Center and Watchung Stables: The center and stables will be closed Monday and remain closed for the duration of Hurricane Sandy. Watchung Stable boarders are encouraged to stay home. Staff will care for all school and  boarder horses throughout the storm. Haunted Hayrides were canceled Sunday.

Golf Courses: All Union County Golf Properties, Galloping Hill, The Learning Center and Ash Brook will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

Union County Social Services: Union County Paratransit Services are canceled for Monday and Tuesday.
