The Week Ahead: An Increase in RVSA fees; State of the State Address, Cranford Newcomers

Here's a look at some of the stories Patch is working on for the coming week.

 

  • Gov. Chris Christie will deliver his State of the State address on Tuesday. Patch will cover the speech, which was rescheduled from last week due to the death of Morris County Assemblyman Alex DeCroce, who collapsed and died from an apparent heart attack at the Statehouse on Jan. 9.
  • Students at in Cranford paid tribute to martin Luther King Jr. by creating signs and hanging them in the hallway of the building. the signs express the values emphasized by the civil rights leader.
  • Did you know that Cranford has a Newcomers Club? The group meets each month with a focus on welcoming new residents and planning social events for adults and children. Cranford Patch attended a recent gathering of the club and will be posting a story on the group.
  • Cranford's bill from the Rahway Valley Sewerage Authority will increase by 20 percent in 2012, according to township officials. According to Deputy Mayor Andis Kalnins, "the overall expenses for the RVSA did increase, but not nearly at this rate."
  • The hosted a lecture on the township's ties to the Civil War. Local historian Steven Glazer presented a lecture/PowerPoint program entitled “Cranford’s Civil War Heritage”
