ALZHEIMER’S AND THE HOME ENVIRONMENT

SAGE Eldercare, 290 Broad St., will host a FREE educational session for caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia. The topic, "Using the Home Environment to Manage Problem Behaviors" will be presented on Friday, May 14 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The program will teach caregivers how to modify the home environment through small scale home modifications and assistive technologies to help them manage the difficult behaviors of their care partners.

The program, which is open to the public, has been developed by The Center for Building Knowledge at NJIT for families of people with Alzheimer's disease who are living home.  Environmental psychologist, Richard V. Olsen, Ph.D., New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will be the presenter.   He will discuss ways to prevent falls, wandering, and visual hallucinations, as well as personal care techniques.  Examples will be provided on how to make kitchens safer and how to control access to dangerous areas of the house. The presentation is being funded by a grant from the Grotta Fund for Senior Care of the Jewish Community Foundation of Metrowest.

This presentation is FREE, but seating is limited. To register, please call (908) 598-5548 or e-mail education@sageeldercare.org.  Please visit out website at www.sageeldercare.org to see the latest offerings and news at SAGE Eldercare.
