In my day burglars were called "burglars," not "popular high school students."
Simon April 23, 2014 at 03:41 pm
Some of the comments here must be from people who have never been robbed or burglarized. When thatRead More happens you feel absolutely violated, you hurt, you suffer anxiety and you wish the violaters could be hurt as bad as you feel. You feel hopeless as to how to recover your valuables, treasures to yourself. You'll wish that you could have been there to stop them somehow, anyhow. I am sure that the accused had these anxieties as I have suffered. Consider that state of mind before you judge him. And the press continuing to refer to him hiding out in the basement is irresponsible journalism. Look at the guy's house, it's a split level and should be referred to as downstairs, not as a basement.
Local PR April 23, 2014 at 03:43 pm
at a minimum he's guilty of failing to report a crime or two. at the maximum, he set a trap forRead More these teens and wanted to "teach them a deadly lesson". judging by his actions after the threat was removed - he's going to jail for quite some time

Can anybody name just one positive thing that she accomplished as Sec. of State..?

$6 Bil Vanishes From State Dept. Under Hillary Clinton APRIL 07, 2014 In a mind-boggling example ofRead More how the government blows—or perhaps steals—our tax dollars, billions vanished from the U.S. State Department mostly while Hillary Clinton ran it, according to a new alert issued by the agency’s inspector general. Could the former Secretary of State be using the cash to fund an upcoming presidential campaign? In all, $6 billion are missing and it’s highly unlikely any of the money will ever be recovered. The cash was supposed to be used to pay contractors but it just disappeared and documents that could help track the dough cannot be located. How convenient! The paper trail, which federal law says must be maintained in the case of government contracts, has been destroyed or was never created to begin with.

One positive thing? Um... she never became President?

Who do you think are flying our drones?
Frank Esposito April 23, 2014 at 02:09 pm
Cops got a chance to play with their toys. Relax people. It's not like you had to respondRead More personally. Stop saying it's a waste of money. Then money is absolutely minimal. These guys were not called away from their golf games. I would also like to compliment the responders for not accidentally killing someone. It showed professionalism and did not add to the "trend" of killing "innocent" people; which is becoming an issues to watch. The people incensed over this should focus their anger on plastic shopping bags as many others are doing over at another great Patch piece. Evil lurks at the checkout counters across America!

Linda Mahoney >> the doorbell prank was just that, a prank, that involved actual self risk,Read More courage and cost nothing to do. these brats today have no respect for wasting resouces whilst sitting ontheir fanny all day.

it's precisely the place to talk about legalization. We wouldn't have our police spending time andRead More risking lives, and spending huge sums to take out m j distribution rings, because there wouldn't be any more of them left. This cop is lucky to be alive. What about the next time? and what about the millions spent on enforcing these laws which are barbaric. if an adults prefers m j to more harmful Alchohol, why are our police involved?
Coffeenut April 23, 2014 at 03:16 pm
Chris you are wrong once again. Law is to furnish proof of insurance which I did. The crooked copRead More should not have issued a ticket. And secondly, regarding the cell phone ticket. Why is it ok for cops to endanger lives when they break that law? With no penalty? Ha! Use common sense moron. And FRAZEYP thank you! Finally a voice of reason here besides mine! Whew! People don't understand that this old out-dated law CAUSES crime and violence!
Chris April 23, 2014 at 03:45 pm
Coffeenut, you have quite the temper. Didn't you recently chastise mary nary fior calling names andRead More yet you call me a moron? I guess the cop should have been leafing thru your policy for all the pertinent information. The law calls for an ins ID card - look it up. If you stop breaking the law, perhaps you would not receive tickets. Also, very unlikely a deer ran out in front of your car in broad daylight. I think you were looking at your cell phone or perhaps enjoying what you want legalized. Since you have opened the door to name calling, i think your a coward - it's easy to sit in your anonymous littke corner and spew bitter BS about police officers. I think you should go to that department and complain if you think the police officer is crooked but you won't because you are a coward and a loser - only a tough guy when on the patch with your stupid name "coffeenut". The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.
Kim McCoy April 23, 2014 at 03:38 pm
"African-American"...really? Why the hyphenated description of yourself? Isn't plain oldRead More American good enough for you?....so steeped in divisive rhetoric taught to you by people who need you angry and combative to stay fat and happy off of it....such a pity.
"The Black Panther of Poetry" April 23, 2014 at 03:42 pm
Why do you care what and who I call myself? Your people have called me worse: Nigger, Tar baby,Read More Jigga boo, monkey, thug, need I continue. You white people can't control everything and everyone for ever, especially when you yourself is as crrooked as two left shoes!!!!
Grumpy Old Man April 23, 2014 at 03:51 pm
And I thought that the goal of affirmative action was to permit young black men and women to advanceRead More in socially productive and significant areas, such as science, mathematics, education, engineering and the like. Damn. I should of known - it's all about financially lucrative rhyming of misogynist c/rap, tossing a ball into a hoop or trying to avoid brain damage long enough to earn your fortune. Silly me.

Dickie also can't stand not seeing his name in the paper once a week, so he'll be "for" orRead More "against" something just for the sake of issuing a press release. Sending out a camera crew to interview him just enables him further. Forty years and counting. He's the poster child for Term Limits.

the only difference I see between Codey and Christie is that one is wearing an orange cone and theRead More other one is still renting them out at will - regardless, the longer Julie Herrman remains at Rutgers, the longer Rutgers's integrity is going to be under a public cloud
Clyde Z April 23, 2014 at 07:59 am
her hiring was a joke, I mean they said they did a background check: must not have used GoogleRead More search because they've listed her troubles before her hire at Rutgers. Not to mention that she "lied" on her application. I've had co-workers fired after a month, months and in another case years after their hire due to lies on their application. Hermann's lies could/should have been cought by simple 10th grade investigation
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

...and according to this, states are allowed to deviate from the standards--although it isRead More discouraged. It does make some sense--the idea of CC standards is to have all the states adhering to the same standard. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: http://indianapublicmedia.org/stateimpact/2013/08/19/core-question-does-copyright-mean-states-cant-change-the-common-core/

Stating that the history books are anti US and pro global without any proof is very misleading. WhenRead More I was going to school we had classes about world history and separate classes about US history. So of course some textbooks about the history of the world might not mention the United States. It didn't exist yet.
Matt Miller April 23, 2014 at 03:05 pm
Comments like "back when I was in school" are completely laughable. I don't brag aboutRead More beating my kid in a foot race because I'm faster then he is. So why should me being able to solve a math problem faster then him mean that the new way doesn't work? I've been using math for decades and he'll be just beginning to learn it. Of course I'm going to know the answer before him. Also, what's wrong with setting higher standards for our kids? When I was in school my "reading and basic learning level" was always a grade or two above my actual grade level. It's easier for them to learn new things when they are younger then it is when they're older.

lunasee, you can still say it, but the government shouldn't be making you say it. How would you feelRead More if the word God was replaced by Allah?
Daniella Ruiz April 23, 2014 at 03:23 pm
taking the 5th and simply NOT murmuring it when it doesnt apply to yourself, is no crime, only anRead More expression of personal belief. causing others to refrain from saying it IS A VIOLATION OF THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS OF FREE SPEECH. and that IS a crime, a very serious crime against ALL americans. at least those who call america their country. i say toss these simpletons into the street, along with their agnostic terrorist lawyers. next thing, these folks will want the word allah put in place of the word god. if on the other hand the school were to demand students recite the phrase per se, with possibility of some penalty or punishment if not done, then there's a far bigger problem. most grownups know that 'god' just isn't really there, except in peoples minds, like a crutch, a hope or a a bet in a casino, false hope that disguises the reality of lifes real uncertainty.
John Santaella April 23, 2014 at 03:30 pm
Daniella, don't lose sleep over this. Not worth it. People pray when they want something. How manyRead More emails per week do you get to pray for a cure for cancer. If prayer were to do it a cure would have been here long ago.

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.

TO MICHAEL BRENNICK: Leftist, Democra... WHAT? You think Comcast is part of the so-calledRead More "liberal" media (which, by the way, doesn't even exist)? Are you freakin' KIDDIN' me? [shakes head in disbelief] Wow. The FOX NEWS CHANNEL should be held criminally liable for what it has done to your brain.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup! On the Fierce Wireless website | http://bit.ly/1i9J0l7 | Interesting.

At least they are bi-partisan. An inappropriate Democratic role model last year and an inappropriateRead More Republican one this year. I don't object to celebrities being role models, but why can't they choose someone who is a noted philanthropist or some other positive figure? I wonder how much someone paid for this honor. And what is this National Father's Day/Mother's Day Council anyway?

I don't believe this kid is competent enough to make those decisions. Those kids need to beRead More prosecuted to the fullest and if the does judge does not agree he needs to step down.

Sorry, Autistic boy, but there are a multitude of crimes here. These so called 'friends' abused youRead More terribly ~ called 'bullying', & that alone cannot be tolerated. Then, there is animal cruelty involved, another terrible crime, plus, harassment of all kinds, leudness, & who knows what else. These 'friends' need to be charged & made aware of the seriousness of their deeds, punished accordingly & helped through proper mental councelling.
