In 1740, Samuel Miller built a house for his wife Sabra in the "West Fields" of Elizabeth. The Millers had 100 acres, and their property stretched from what is now the Miller-Cory House Museum at 614 Mountain Avenue to the beginning of downtown Westfield. In 1972, the house became a museum, named after its first owner and Joseph Cory, who bought the house in 1782. Certified as an historic site and entered on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places, the museum provides an opportunity for children and their families to learn about our heritage both on site and out in the community. The museum may be reached weekday mornings at 908-232-1776 or millercorymuseum@gmail.com. The museum's website is www.millercoryhouse.org.
